Roy Edison Bell (November 2, 1935—March 8, 2022)
On March 8, 2022, Roy passed away peacefully with family by his side at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. He was 86 years old. Roy was predeceased by his wife Jean (Reid), his parents Alf and Elizabeth, brothers Burton and Hillard, and two sisters who died in infancy.
Roy is survived by his sisters-in-law Nina (Donald-deceased) Campbell; Freda (Walter-deceased) Adams; Iris (Ted) Wagner; Daisy (Tom) Dwyer; Doris (David) Holford; Norma (Alvin-deceased) Bryan; Ruth (Alden) Ryder; Pearl (Hillard-deceased) Bell; and brother-in-law Douglas (Judy) Reid.
Roy was uncle and great uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was a good friend to many, including friends he worked with many years ago on the roads with the Department of Highways, his card playing buddies, and family and friends who he kept entertained over the years.
Roy had the good fortune of growing up in a loving family in Elmsdale and spent his life with Jean there, later moving to Tignish. He was a character who loved a good laugh and always had a memory or story to share. He played countless games of crib and had a strong preference for winning those games. He had a talent for mercilessly teasing those he loved, knowing where the best church dinners were, and how to source pies by the dozen. Roy was truly one-of-a-kind and leaves many of us with stories and endearing moments that will continue on to the next generation.
Roy’s family wishes to thank his doctors Dr. Peter Entwistle, Dr. John Campbell, and Dr. Stephen Morais, the nurses of QEH Unit 1, and doctors and nurses at the Prince County Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Hospital emergency departments for their outstanding care and compassion. A special thanks is also extended to caring neighbors who were so good to Roy.
West Prince Funeral Home in Palmer Road has been entrusted with arrangements. At Roy’s request, there will be no wake or funeral. Interment will take place at the Hillcrest United Cemetery in Alberton at a later date.
Roy always appreciated a good meal and well stocked fridge. In his memory, donations to a local food bank to support Island families, or the Western Hospital Foundation are appreciated.
