About Us
West Prince Funeral Home is owned by the West Prince Funeral Co-op Limited, a co-operative of more than 600 local members. The funeral home is managed by Angela MacAlduff.
Our history
Our funeral co-op, formerly known as the Palmer Road Funeral Co-op, was the first in Atlantic Canada, and its start sparked the funeral co-ops that followed.
With support from the Palmer Road Knights of Columbus, Father Eloi Arsenault, and a committee that included Willard Mokler, Leroy Doucette, Reg Gaudet and Clovis Doucette, the co-op set out to offer funerals and related services to everyone in the community. It received its charter and began operation in 1986.
For six years, facilities were rented from the Palmer Road Parish. In 1992, the co-op built its own fully serviced building on Thompson Road, renovated inside in 2025. Today the co-operative continues to grow, with more than 600 members.
Board of Directors
A nine-member board of directors is responsible for the co-operative's operation. An annual meeting is held each March. A third of the board is elected each year for a three-year term, a member may serve two consecutive terms, and the constitution requires the board to meet at least six times per year.

Each member is also entitled to receive a copy of the audited financial statements each year, and the members approve the auditor appointed at each annual meeting. Any member can stand for election to the Board of Directors if they would like to be more involved in the affairs of the co-operative.
A membership share in the West Prince Funeral Co-op Ltd. costs $10. Applications can be obtained by contacting the funeral home or any of the directors.

- Co-operative educationEach co-op helps members, elected officials, staff and the public understand co-operatives and their role.
- Co-operation among co-operativesCo-ops work together at local, national and international levels.
