Peacefully and surrounded by his family, Melvin Joseph Bernard passed away at Andrews of Park West in Charlottetown, PEI on May 20, 2025, at the age of 92 years.

Born in DeBlois, October 17, 1932, Melvin lived a life rooted in hard work, strong values and a deep love for his family. He was a steady and loving presence in the lives of all who knew him and was a respected and loved figure in his community.

Melvin spent most of his life dedicated to his dairy farm in DeBlois, and to raising a family with his beloved wife Eunice. Married for 68 years, they shared a life filled with devotion, laughter, and countless kilometres driven across Prince Edward Island to visit their friends, children, and grandchildren. Melvin had a love for fiddle music, could play any song by ear on his keyboard, and always had a mischievous sparkle in his eye.

He cherished simple pleasures watching the evening news, taking long walks in the woods, late-night card games with good friends, and morning tea.

Melvin’s legacy of love, resilience, and dedication will live on in the hearts of his family. He is survived by his wife Eunice (Martin) Bernard, and their children: Louise MacDonald (Francis), Florence Rose (Tom), Aubrey Bernard (Nessya), Armand Bernard (Marg), Ken Bernard, and Gina Bernard (Michael). He also leaves behind daughter-in-law Donna, his grandchildren Pam, Cheryl, Ronnie, Tammie, Derek, Crystal, Jaime, Chris, Laura, Brian, Nathan, Michael, Matthew, Victoria, Shoshanna, Lawson, Kathryn, Rhett, Lincoln, Atlin, Cassie, Jacob — and numerous great-grandchildren.

Melvin was predeceased by his sons Ronnie and Terry, and grandson Devin Bernard, his parents Ziah and Fidelis (Arsenault) Bernard, and his siblings: Mae Gaudet (Joseph), Aubin (Doris), Fidéle, Eddie, Emile, Alphonse, and Henry. He was also predeceased by nephews Don Gaudet and Victor Gaudet.
